I don't belong to anybody

How was your Christmas vacation? I spent a lot of mine being very domestic or receiving domestic gifts. I made a double batch of cupcakes and used extra batter to test out my "tasty-fill" mini caked pans. White cake with homemade lemon curd filling and blackberry butter cream frosting. They didn't last long; the cupcakes were eaten and the mini cakes fell into a pile of crumbs. (Note to "tasty-fill" pan users: take the cake out of the pans asap or they'll be too moist to stand up.) I also made marshmallows and creeped my family out at the same time. They were shocked that marshmallows could be made at home. I was shocked they came out tender with all the whipping and the cooking to high temperatures. I used almond extract instead of vanilla and I thought they turned out better than any store bought marshmallows I've had.

I also spent a lot of time working on my applique. And turning 80. When we were in Hawaii my mom bought me an applique pattern of my favorite fish from our snorkeling adventure. I then coerced her into directing me while I made it. I ended up liking it so much that I used the extra fabric to make two more. One for my mom and one for my aunt.

(This is just to prove that I really made this piece by piece)

Mine. WARNING: If you come to my apartment I will make you look at it. Please be nice to my fledgling applique-ist feelings.

Version two.

Anyone want to come make marshmallows with me? I want to try different flavors and try using the marshmallows to make s'mores and other sundry treats.

  3. Uhm, no. I don't want to make marshmallows. I want your mother to make the bean dip and you to make me those mini cupcake masterpieces. I'm still salivating!

  4. I printed a recipe for marshmallows a few weeks ago. I fully intended to make them so we could use them in hot cocoa on Christmas morning. It didn't happen. I still want to try it.

Another thing that hasn't happened, and may never, is applique. I am too impatient. I've tried,but...I have passed over many awesome quilt patterns because of it. So I'm proud of you!
